WHY UPGRADE?
Datacard Group has previously announced that the RFID tags used in all Datacard® Certified Supplies with Intelligent Supplies Technology™ are entering an end-of-life/obsolescence phase.Also communicated is the fact that the Desktop card printers will require a firmware
upgrade.
The mandatory upgrade enables existing Datacard printers to work with supplies that contain the new proprietary RFID tag. In addition, production of supplies with the old RFID tag will end in early 2012. Upgraded printers will be able to use older supplies until current inventories are exhausted. This transition will be gradual; as the current stock levels of the SP/CP/FP series supplies with older RFID tag are depleted we will switch over to the new RFID tag supplies.
Consequently, Datacard Group would like to officially announce that all color ribbons, graphics ribbons, topcoats and laminates that contain our old RFID Technology, used with the following Datacard card printers, will be discontinued on December 31st, 2011.
The Datacard printers that will need to be updated are:
- Datacard® SP25 card printer and Datacard® SP25 Plus card printer
- Datacard® SP35 card printer and Datacard® SP35 Plus card printer
- Datacard® SP55 card printer and Datacard® SP55 Plus card printer
- Datacard® SP75 card printer and Datacard® SP75 Plus card printer
- Datacard® FP65™ financial card printer
- Datacard® FP65i™ financial card printer
There are many customers that have already transitioned to the new supplies with great success after they performed the GOGreen upgrade, providing them with reduced stock management, lower cost-per-card, earth-friendly biodegradable cores and more reliable and secure supplies performance.
Important
During this transition, supplies with the discontinued version of the RFID tag will continue to be available. At this time, Datacard estimates that we will have adequate inventory levels to meet the diminishing demand through December 31, 2011.However, as of January 1, 2012, all orders for old supplies will be filled only as inventory is available. If inventory is not available, the customer will be contacted to amend their order to contain the appropriate corresponding supplies containing the new RFID technology (please refer to the part number transition sheet available below at Your new Green Supplies Part numbers). At that time, we will also remind customers that to enable the use of the new RFID technology, the GOGreen firmware must first be installed within the printer.
In order for the printer to work after the firmware update, the latest printer drivers need to be installed. Latest drivers available on the "GOGreen Firmware Update" Page.
KINDLY NOTE: The printer and the PC has to be connected to a UPS when doing the printer firmware update. Failure to do so may result in permanent damage to the printer if a power failure should occur.
